Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci has called for President Donald Trump to be removed from office following a riot by the president's supporters at the Capitol building on Wednesday.

Scaramucci, who has become an outspoken critic of Trump since leaving the administration in 2017, took to Twitter to blame the president for the incident in which four people died.

'Trump's terrorists rolled into Capitol w/ guns, mace & zip-tie handcuffs. They planned to take hostages & likely perform executions, ala the Michigan statehouse plot. President Trump incited & cheered the insurrection. He should be immediately removed from office & prosecuted,' Scaramucci wrote on Thursday.

While at least one of the rioters was pictured carrying zip ties, there is currently no evidence that the protesters intended to take hostages or otherwise harm anyone.

'Worried about the next 13 days,' Scaramucci added in a later tweet. 'Trump will always go lower; it has to do with his self loathing and the pleasure he takes in causing pain in others. Do not underestimate him. Think the worst but remember you are not capable of thinking like him due to his malevolence.'

Scaramucci's comments come amid widespread speculation that the cabinet could invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office just 13 days before President-elect Joe Biden will take the oath of office.

The idea of impeaching Trump a second time has also been floated, though there is unlikely to be enough time or appetite among members of Congress and senators for such a move.

Trump issued a statement on Thursday shortly after a joint session of Congress formally affirmed Biden's Electoral College win. The president wasn't able to use his Twitter account at the time, so the statement was shared by White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Dan Scavino.

'Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,' the statement said.

'I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it's only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!'

Scaramucci had offered harsh criticism of Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) late on Wednesday following Hawley's decision to object to the presidential election results from Pennsylvania.

'He said: I am @HawleyMO and I am a traitor to the United States,' Scaramucci said. 'I am for political expediency and personal power and ambition, nothing more. I am shallow and unpatriotic. Irregardless of all of that, forever I am stained in the annals of history and my name will live in infamy.'

The Scaramucci Post, a Twitter account linked to former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, tweeted a poll on Tuesday asking how many Jews were killed during the Holocaust.

The Jerusalem Post reports that The Scaramucci Post tweeted a poll from their own Twitter account titled, “How many Jews were killed in the Holocaust?” The poll allowed Twitter users to select a number of options ranging between less than one million to more than five million.

The poll was deleted shortly afterward, and The Scaramucci Post account tweeted a screenshot of the poll along with an explanation for the post:

This poll was put up by @lancelaifer without consulting @Scaramucci who is traveling in London.

Lance Laifer, whose Twitter bio lists him as the CEO of Old Forge Media Management, was blamed for posting the poll and has since apologized. He claimed the poll was intended to highlight the general public’s ignorance of facts relating to the Holocaust.

This is @lancelaifer and I apologize if anyone was offended by the Holocaust poll.

The intent of the poll was to highlight ignorance of the basic facts of the Holocaust. I take full responsibility for it.

Arthur Schwartz, Scaramucci’s friend who has previously been quoted as his PR rep, also took issue with the poll in a number of tweets. Schwartz did, however, seem to call out Laifer directly rather than Scaramucci. Replying to Laifer’s tweet that the poll wasn’t meant to offend anyone, Schwartz stated, “The problem is that you’re not offended by it.”

When Laifer claimed that the poll was an attempt to highlight the lack of education around the Holocaust, Schwartz replied, “But it ended up highlighting @lancelaifer’s ignorance instead. And embarrassed Anthony & people associated with him. Just stop.”
